community acupuncture involves a traditional acupuncture treatment in a comfortable open setting with other people enjoying the benefits of acupuncture as well. another key component of the definition is the use of a sliding scale fee.
why community acupuncture?
acupuncture is a beautiful yet powerful medicine that can treat serious and complicated ailments. unfortunately, most of the publicity that acupuncture receives these days has to do with spa treatments and facials. yes, it is a wonderful way to relax between your pedicure and bikini wax--but it can also rid people of migraines, control digestive diseases (crohn's, ibs), assist people through cancer treatments, mitigate auto-immune symptoms and relieve pain from a myriad of conditions. these are typically not reasons to visit your favorite spa. the other problem with spa or "boutique" medicine is the price. there is a relatively small percentage of the population that can actually afford paying $125 for an acupuncture treatment more than once a week, sometimes for months on end. acupuncture is not meant to be a medicine strictly for the wealthy. community acupuncture programs are structured so that nearly anyone can afford to get the treatment that they need. most community acupuncturists have a sliding scale fee but are willing to negotiate further if you are committed to a regular and frequent schedule. the programs are also set up so that busy patients can spend as much or as little time as they need on their actual appointments.
there are some people who may not enjoy the full benefit of community style acupuncture. some people will always prefer the solitude of a private room, no matter what it costs. there are also those who like to treat their acupuncture appointment like a psychotherapy session and discuss their lives at length. this is not a possibility with the community model-- a community session includes only a very brief history/interview because of the tight scheduling and for the sake of privacy.
red flower acupuncture studio is now offering only community based acupuncture. the sliding scale ranges from $20 - $40 with a one-time, additional $10 fee for your 1st treatment. please call 312-997-9932 to schedule your appointment today.
